I’ll be honest, I 1) have no problem with straight males enjoying content aimed at them, including male-gazey content. I am 2) a woman extremely disinterested in that. I think the entire reason on Reddit we congregated on r/otomegames and usually didn’t bleed into r/visualnovels is because r/visualnovels catered mostly to men, and although that’s fine there also wasn’t much there for us. I took a brief look at your link and although it does have gender-neutral stuff like Ace Attorney, the one otome post has two downvotes and zero upvotes despite being on topic, and I see a lot of romance games aimed at men sexually interested in women. So sorry, but definitely not for me. Yes, those downvotes might be the obligatory few downvotes on nearly any Fediverse post I see ever no matter how inoffensive and on topic, but still, no approval balancing it out… nevermind, I read it wrong, two upvotes. My point about content I actively do not want to see (though I am okay with others consuming it) being prominent there as well as neutral news still stands. (Yes, I can handle male gaze in shows, I really enjoyed Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. But it feels a little different to play as a guy where at least part of the goal, whether explicit in game or just a goal in real life and not part of the main story, is to see women in a manner sexually exciting to a straight man. And although most otome aren’t quite sexual, and more about romance, I feel some men might also not want to see content focused on games where a big goal is to romance a man as a woman, presented in a femgazey way or a way tailored to our desires even if not sexualized.)

I know of the Lemmy alternative and I think I was ignoring it because at first, otomegames@kbin.social did have activity, and the Lemmy one was overrun by just reposts of fan art someone else drew (at least with attribution) and I preferred majority-discussion over a replication of that particular game’s tag on Pixiv. Also, oh god the English errors on the rules. It seems to have died so I might try that if this doesn’t work. Does Lemmy have a way to get inactive mods removed and replaced? Thank you for the recommendation!

(So why don’t I just recruit from the subreddit? Already tried when Lemmy and Kbin were getting their big population boom from the API drama. I got shoved into the Self-Promotion Sunday threads that nobody pays attention to.)

I know kbin.social has issues but I figured the federated nature of the Fediverse meant we could still post to communities there without being on it ourselves. Is the issue that the posts will be frequently inaccessible? I am a little confused.

I’ll never remember the difference between !communityName@instance and @communityName@instance. When I go to view the community name and rules, at least on Kbin/Mbin I see it listing itself as @communityName@instance. I think I had a similar issue awhile back

I actually did use sub.rehab when first coming here, although it may not be obvious by my account history because this is a third account (migrated from kbin.social to kbin.cafe to help out with decentralization/not overloading the big server, now I’m on kbin.run because the instance owner of kbin.cafe disappeared). Searching again today gives only a Squabble link when I look for r/rabbits or r/bunnies alternatives. I can do nothing to fix this because submitting links is currently disabled.

This is the first I’m hearing about Lemmy Explorer, possibly because I’m a Kbin (well, now Mbin, a Kbin fork, because my instance owner swapped to that. Currently trying to find a small instance with an active owner that still runs Kbin, so not the big flagship kbin.social) user. Thank you for sharing.

Not sure if this is a joke or a legitimate question. I’m on a Kbin fork, not Lemmy, so not sure if you get the rabbit preview picture.

If it was a legit question… it’s the “boring fur balls”. If it was Playboy Bunnies there’d probably be a lot more stuff about “sexy” and “lady” or “woman” in my description, and nothing about “owners” because I’m not sure Playboy goes to that level of kink. Wouldn’t actually know, I’m a woman with no sexual interest in other women, so I’ve never looked.

Sounds good, only trouble is I’m not a mod.

I like visual novels because of how I can change the story with different choices. This isn’t much gameplay but it is still interactive and a lot easier to do with a computer than with manually flipping between pages in a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

Now, kinetic novels, where you do not change anything significant in the story with your choices, those I agree with OP’s sentiment. Some people like them and that’s totally fine, but I personally don’t see the appeal. Maybe it’s getting exposure to stories from people who had an idea but not a high enough budget for a movie?

“You” should not be capitalized unless it is the first word in the sentence. You have it capitalized inappropriately in several places on the itch.io page. Your typos and your consistent English mistake with “you” makes me think there might be other English errors in the game. This is a text-based game, where I will spend most of my time reading. I don’t want to spend my time reading things that have lots of English errors. And I don’t think I’m the only potential player who decides not to play because of your English mistakes. I didn’t comb through your post specifically looking for errors to pick on, I honestly just noticed them without trying to and found them distracting and annoying. I’m human, I make mistakes and typos too, but I’m also not promoting a game whose gameplay involves lots of reading.

I don’t want to be mean, but you did ask for feedback so I feel it’s appropriate to share this. I do love the concept of playing as a villain protagonist, it’s what made me click on your post in the first place.

Played Uplink as a kid, later learned about fragmentation for computer memory. Was cool to find out the inventory system wasn’t just a cool game mechanic but was based off how actual memory works.
