Peoplenon-nerds still remember Pluto.
A lot of folks on here want to worry about how their computer is working. This is very time consuming and can be pretty frustrating to manage on your own.
Add 25 years of IT work, and I now have zero interest in doing computer stuff as a hobby anymore. I used to love tinkering. Had multi-boot systems, spun up VMs just because I could, turned a minitower into a JBOD SCSI enclosure, etc. Now I just want stuff to work without fucking with it. That used to be Apple… and while they’ve gotten away from that a fair amount it’s still head and shoulders above Microsoft and Google.
If big tech gets awful enough that I have to consider brushing up on Linux, I might as well just fuck off into the woods and see if I can make friends with some raccoons or something. I’m tired, man.

Big if, in some cases. My aye-affirming rep ran unopposed in this primary, and I can’t remember the last time there was a challenger. For my part I did a write in vote, but seeing as his big brother has a stranglehold on a LOT of business/politics/douchebaggery in the state, I don’t see this changing any time soon.

This is why cancer research is so important. But for now, we can try the old standbys of surgical removal and full-system poison.

Otherwise, it’s just choking out everything else. Except the English ivy. Which is worse.

3·27 days agoYep. Would have gladly bought more than one season of Bojack Horseman, two seasons of Stranger Things, Hill House in 4K/HDR… but no. I’m glad there are preservationists keeping stuff like this from disappearing at the whim of corporate (all hail etc.).

2·1 month agoI’m not sure if it’s valid anymore (I am far from a brick aficionado but I have friends that are very into it), but the old rule of thumb says $0.10 per piece, which would put this at $250. $50 Nintendo tax doesn’t seem out of the question, either.

They did (in the US). Bain Capital bled them dry and then sold off the scraps. There have been a few attempts to revive the brand but to my knowledge nothing has stuck yet.
