Perhaps, with them no longer being able to easily upload clips to twitter from consoles, they’ll be less inclined to participate on twitter. I agree it’s not going to change much, though. I wonder how many people were even using this built-in integration anyway?
Why helldivers? I haven’t even heard that game talked about in like, over a month.
I mean, maybe it should be. Maybe the government should be paying artists instead like somebody else suggested somewhere. Idk, it’s an interesting topic. But that’s in these peoples ideal world that we clearly do not live in. I am in complete agreement that, pirating all forms of art being the morally just thing to do (like the very first commenter suggested), is very incorrect. At least in our timeline it is.
To preface this, I do agree it’s not morally correct to pirate. At BEST it’s morally neutral, and usually it’s not even that. I don’t know why people think they’re entitled to another person’s work without paying just because it’s “art”. They’re not.
However…
I completely disagree that your analogy is spot on. If I have zero plans to ever buy a certain car, but then one day decide to just steal it to see if it’s fun to drive, that car can no longer be sold to somebody else and the dealership or whatever just lost a lot of money.
On the other hand, if I have no plans to ever buy a game, but decide to pirate it to see if it’s actually fun, the developers don’t lose money from that. I never would have bought it in the first place, and they can still sell it to others because I didn’t actually take it from them.
That’s the difference. Now, if I had already planned on buying it but decided, “nah I’ll just pirate it instead”, then I would agree they’re losing out on a potential sale. That’s still different from losing a car though, because the dealership isn’t only losing a potential sale, they’re also losing an item in limited supply that takes physical time and labor to make (as opposed to just fabricating another Steam key).
I haven’t even bothered to subscribe to many communities. I almost exclusively browse all because there just aren’t any niche interests of mine being talked about. In that sense, the gap that leaving reddit left has not yet been filled. That said, I don’t particularly miss it.
The only thing that really sucks is the loss of game communities. I no longer get updates and spoilers for games I’m interested in on a forum. I’ve had to join like 30 different discord servers and have them all send updates to my own private server, but I no longer have a community to discuss these things with because I don’t care for chatting with strangers in real time like you do on Discord. This has led me to become less interested in many games and, in some scenerios where the game is held up by an awesome community (Deep Rock Galactic for example), I’ve just completey stopped playing them.
With that in mind, I think I would consider my switch from Reddit to Lemmy somewhat negative, but at no fault of Lemmy. I realize I’m not exactly doing anything to help my problem, especially by only browsing all.
I’ve found the Mull browser (which can be found through the DivestOS repository on F-Droid) works great as a privacy-focused firefox fork, similar to LibreWolf. I hear Fennic F-Droid is also a pretty good but less extreme alternative, but I’d imagine you don’t care much about that if you use LibreWolf.

There was no context in the original image or the original comment that the OP was being an ass about it. All I was arguing is that you shouldn’t immediately expect toxicity if you’re not being toxic yourself. I do agree it’s not the proper place to ask, and that your answers aren’t going to be super helpful.

Sure. Because you were able to find success, that means everyone should also be able to do it, no matter how different their circumstances are (like the fact that a game genre may be more niche, or that you actually have to pay for games).

There are plenty of great games you will literally never hear about.

I get addiction is real and it’s not easy to quit for some people. What I don’t get is that the game apparently has a different world type that is just better and he’s actively choosing not to play it instead. That’s like picking to play P2W poker where you can buy better hands and then complaining that it’s not fun when you could just go play real poker at the next table instead. At some point I just lose a lot of my sympathy for them.

I imagine phones no longer having headphone jacks isn’t helping the wired headphones market. I’d gladly use wired headphones if it meant I didn’t need to charge mine or worry about them dying on me. Aside from working out, it’s not like the wire is exactly in the way…
If the amount of people that just put up with ads currently instead of switching to Firefox is anything to go by, I think the number of people who truly care is less that you might think. Especially when YouTube is such a monopoly.
