  • When did I state any opinion on UI in this conversation? I just said not everything is apple and MS, and no shit most stuff has similarities people get used to features and there’s stuff that just can’t be done in more ways. Also I actually find KDE like a sweet spot between windows and android, with a few original and apple features. Just keep whining about how superior you think you are like an average apple fanboy

  • Maybe it’s just me, but the only topic where i see people consistently complaining about paywalls is in publicly-financed research articles behind a paywall, which should definitely not be legal and fuck universities doing that shit. As for general news i haven’t seen so much complaints, but then again, maybe i just wooooshed through them.

Personally I don’t really care in this context because i can go to the source if I’m that invested and don’t want to pay, their job is to keep track and sometimes summarize what happens in the industry. Seems reasonable to either pay or invest my own time. Adblock is non negociable tho.

Toggling on data collection without informing the user would mean billions of dollars worth of fines in Europe, so I doubt that happens regularly.

More like a few thousand euros symbolic fine and an angry letter saying “don’t be an ass again pls our infrastructure depends on you” after years of blatant abuses and anti-consumer practices, followed by an ambiguous law (with positive effects affecting only european users) they will definitely not manage to circumvent withing the next week and a half. Not this time 🤡.

The problem here is the fact that most people just do not give a fuck about this; that’s why there’s no coverage in the (mainstream) media, why the only people who cares end up just leaving windows and why this kind of options are usually opt-out and they can actually afford to silently re-enable them cuz who’s gonna check anyways? Random people ranting on meme communities about my fancy malware?

That’s the thing, most desktop distros come with a web browser preinstalled, but:

    • It’s usually firefox or librewolf, which are objectively superior to edge in any scenario.
    • You can uninstall it right away with either a three word command or open a program with a big red “uninstall” button, no console needed.
    • Nothing breaks, the system literally doesn’t give a fuck if you even have a web browser at all.
    • If you want another browser then go for it! You can even use edge if you’re a psychopath. Your system wont judge you, but i might sorry-
    • It will never reinstall crap you uninstalled and set it the default on a random mandatory system update.

  • Thanks, this is what i was talking about. I think i eat a healthy amount of meat, mostly white ones because of health and because istg chickens in specific have no souls. Most argumens you used can actually be outweighed by “i just like meat a lot”, which is fine, but they are still relevant to choose what meat. I mean compare, in terms of ethics, health, sustainability, and even taste a McDonald’s and a halal butcher shop.

What i try to say is that respect is just as important, if not more, than ethics; and you need both along with a little bit of reading to get a balanced point of view.

…Biggest problem is I’m broke af and bad meat is cheaper than good meat and no meat, ethics are a luxury not everyone can afford 🥲
