A practical way to identify an ultra-processed product is to check to see if its list of ingredients contains at least one item characteristic of the NOVA ultra-processed food group, which is to say, either food substances never or rarely used in kitchens (such as high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated or interesterified oils, and hydrolysed proteins), or classes of additives designed to make the final product palatable or more appealing (such as flavours, flavour enhancers, colours, emulsifiers, emulsifying salts, sweeteners, thickeners, and anti-foaming, bulking, carbonating, foaming, gelling and glazing agents).

So I guess a “whole food” is a food that doesn’t contain High fructose corn syrup or additives. But if they are making this direct link between ultra-processed foods and increased mortality, then surely it’s these specific substances that are responsible for it? So why aren’t we banning high fructose corn syrup and these additives?

Surely it doesn’t need to be more complicated than that?

Climate change driving entire populations to migrate is going to prove disastrous over our lifetime. Already we’re seeing voters turn to the far-right in response to rising immigration rates, and I fear it will get worse before it gets better. Damn, what an awesome woman. I remember following Windsor vs. United States when I was younger, and celebrating her victory

Amsterdam. I don’t know what I expected, but it was overwhelmingly better in every way than I anticipated. The cycling infrastructure that allowed me to bicycle around was amazing, I felt safe on the road even without a helmet. The public transportation was so convenient and easy, there were some delays, some cancellations, but it was still a highlight of my trip and I was able to use a clean restroom on a public train which blew my mind. The parks are everywhere and beautiful. There are so many “third places” where you can just go and hang out. The shops, the museums, the weed cafes, all top notch. I saw Wu-tang clan and NAS while I was there at the Ziggo-dome, and it was such an amazing experience. Ever since visiting, I’ve wanted to move there.

Christina Marie Chapman, 49, of Litchfield Park, Arizona, raised $6.8 million in the scheme, federal prosecutors said in an indictment unsealed Thursday.
