President Carter was the best and most decent president and human being the US has had in a long time and will probably ever have.

What’s the basis for that argument, especially in refutation of his detractors?

Start by reading up and talking about the Carter Center. I’ve been donating to them for many years because they take a top down charity approach instead of just tossing money at a low level problem that never actually fixes the systemic reasons for which its a problem to begin with. The Cater Center takes an intelligent, high level look at how to ease human suffering and considers if its tangible to address from top down then DOES it. Take for example the Guinea Worm, a painful and sometimes disabling affliction that effected 3+ million people in 1985. In 2022 there was only 13 reported cases. It only took education and giving locals tools to project themselves from the larva. There are many examples of this that Carter through the Carter Center has left the world a substantially better place than he found it.

Rightwing religious extremists are basically a death cult that doesn’t suicide…

Dying is “god bringing us home” and something they are usually happy about.

If you think the only thing standing between you and an eternity of a heavenly afterlife is your own death, a long life is a bad thing.

At this point, Republicans are the biggest non believers on the planet. Everything they think or due is driven by hate. How is that consistent with Biblical teachings?

Global warming isn’t in the bible therefore it doesn’t exist (or maybe it is, even Christians don’t read that shit)

Everything they think or due is driven by hate.

That’s not very far off from politically active people in general nowdays, especially on social media. People seem much more willing to bond over the common hatred of an outgroup, rather than mutual love for something. I mean, here we are shitting on the republican party on a heavily left leaning forum with daily threads about Twitter, Reddit, Elon, Spez, Google, Billionaires, Capitalism etc. Very rarely I see as passionate discussions about common projects we’re all equally excited about.

I feel like it was only a few years ago that he was building houses with habitat for humanity. Not something most people his age would be capable of.

Jimmy Carter also loves Jesus a hell of a lot more than any Republican, as you can tell by his actions. If all Christians were like Jimmy Carter I might actually like them.

Nah they probably think since Jimmy Carter is a one term president that God keeps him around as a way to perpetually shame him.
